The IEL is comprised of several units whose central mission is to promote the effective use and delivery of several high-impact engaged learning practices: Center for Service and Learning, Center for Research and Learning, ePortfolios, First Year Experience, and IU Indianapolis’s RISE Initiative. In its day-to-day work, the IEL team collaborates with schools and units across campus to ensure students have equitable access to engaged learning experiences.
This work is achieved by our focus on:
- the student experience, actively promoting and encouraging students to seek out engaged learning in curricular and co-curricular experiences;
- faculty and staff professional development, to ensure that high-impact engaged learning experiences are implemented with fidelity;
- community and civic engagement, to ensure that our students, faculty and staff work in equitable partnership with the Indianapolis community and beyond to tackle the problems and issues of the twenty-first century
- research and dissemination by developing rigorous assessments and evaluation plans to measure the effectiveness of this work and to disseminate our findings via peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
