Year of the Capstone Kick-Off

Event Details

Join us for a half-day information sharing session to kick off the Year of the Capstone. We would greatly appreciate it if at least one faculty member from your department could attend. This representative should be a faculty member who coordinates/supervises capstone projects and/or who teaches the capstone course within your department. If this individual is not available (or unidentified), we would welcome the participation of the department head/chair and/or another faculty designee who possesses some familiarity with the capstone experience in your department.

Opening Remarks

  • Centrality of capstone experience as final check-in on student learning and competencies
  • Culminating engaged learning experience
  • Public display of competence
  • Reflection on progress toward the Profiles of Learning for Undergraduate Success

9:15–11:00 a.m.

Activity–Inventory of Current Capstone Experiences

  • Guided small group discussion around practices employed in capstone courses
  • Identification of areas of support
  • Identification of collective opportunities

11:00–11:30 a.m.

Professional Development

  • Capstone Taxonomy
  • Introduction of Capstone Community of Practice
  • Needs Assessment for Future Planning Efforts

11:30–Noon

Lunch

Noon–12:30 p.m.

Profiles and Assessment of Capstone

12:30–12:45 p.m.

Capstone Showcases and Engaged Learning Week
