Shirin Neshat: Contributing to Conversations of Global Feminism Through Emotional Appeal
This project explores the work of Shirin Neshat, specifically her video installation Turbulent in congruence with her latter two installations Rapture and Fervor. These works examine themes of gender binaries and societal boundaries through discussions of gender in Iranian Society. Through the scope of a global feminist conversation, Neshat urges viewers to take part in this discourse through her split screen technique and appeals to her audience’s emotional response by placing them in the middle of this installation. Neshat intentionally leaves her audience with no clear answer or closure in her films and in doing so admits the complexity of the issues introduced in her work.
