Student-Led Community-Based Projects on Indy’s Old Southside

This semester, Dr. Susan Hyatt’s Field Methods in Ethnography class worked on several projects relating to Indianapolis’s Old Southside neighborhood. These projects used a variety of ethnographic fieldwork methods, including face-to-face and Zoom interviews, participant-observation at community meetings, and digital research to discover more about the Old Southside, its residents, and businesses. The students then turned their community research projects into final products like posters, podcasts, virtual walking tours, or videos. The goal of these products is for them to be accessible to residents of the Old Southside.
