Gender Expansive Adolescents
Gender expansive adolescents refer to adolescents who expand notions of gender identity and expression beyond societal norms. Gender expansive adolescents are at a higher risk for physical, emotional, and mental abuse, depression, and suicide. It’s important to create a safe space for adolescents to receive care, support, and guidance through their journey. Furthermore, Riley is the only location in Indiana that serves patients under 21. My project focuses on creating handouts, flyers, and stickers for therapists and patients. I’ve created a WPATH letter handout for therapists who aren’t familiar with writing one. I’ve created a detailed handout on how to update patient’s medical record who have legally changed their name and gender marker. My project also focuses on logistics and planning for the IU Youth and Parent Advisory Board. Lastly, to become more familiar with HIPPA, I’ve transferred patient packets into a database to be analyzed by researchers in the future. In conclusion, my project focuses on providing the correct information to youth about their health.
