Inkjet 3D printing utilizes layer-by-layer droplet interaction and solidification to generate 3D components with the potential of applying it in fabricating ceramic and electronic components. In this project, through a student research program, we use an open-source design to create a customized 3D inkjet printer to improve its printability. The preliminary results of the design and fabrication of the printer system are presented and experimentation with the inkjet printer head is performed to evaluate the printer’s performance with different optimized powder and binder recipes. The focus will be on understanding the effectiveness of this promising manufacturing technique.
